Anime 'genwunners' say that Ash vs Gary was better than Ash's battle against Paul. Paul's battle had series development leading up to it, and Gary's rivalry lasted two regions. In both battles, Charizard and Infernape swept the opponent's teams. Which battle do you prefer?

Paul, without a doubt. Sure, Gary teases and mocks Ash, but what happened to his League performances? Why is his screentime so short in the Johto series? Why is his screentime STILL so short in the Sinnou series?! WHY!!  ? For Paul, he humiliates and puts down Ash, making their rivalry so tense and grating, you want Ash to win against him. Because of that, Ash got so powerful in the end of DP, and for that to be taken away because Nintendouche says to keep Ash around the main series, was really infuriating. |

Paul all the way. He made Gary look like a harmless nuisance in comparison, mostly because of his training style and attitude. Nobody else could enrage Ash more than he did and he had the skills to do it over and over again. For that reason alone, I prefer the battle with Paul.

Paul. You could feel the intensity Ash had when battling him and Ash didn't need mocking to battle Paul

It's a tough decision and I can't chose because I loved both battles!!!
With Gary was the backround that make the difference and also the fact that when they decided to end the rivarly they also helped each other to make the next move in their lives!!!! I like Gary!!! He's badass with the good meaning!!!
With Paul was realy tence and he push Ash to his limmits but I didn't enjoy the cruelty that Ash and his Pokémon recived!!! In a lot of times I wished to be in the anime so I can slap Paul and make that cruel and ironic laugh to dissapear!!!!
I enjoy both battles because Ash and his Pokémon gave their best selves and also because show us how creativite Ash can be!!!! I like this feel that we don't know what he's going to do next!!!
So for me is a tie!!!!
