bmgf.bulbagarden.net/f300/pokeshipping-general-discussion-55952/index48.html#712In the episode "Octillery the Outcast", Ash and Misty high fived. Now Pokeshippers have got giddy and said "Take that Pearlshippers" and "Ash and Misty were the first ones ever to high five" and "high fiving is just a friends thing". So what? It's just a high five. They pretty much devalue the worth of the Pearlshipping high five by using this example. And that's fine; the high five is not what matters. Here's what I have to say: <-they're almost hugging! How about a duet? Is a duet just a "friends thing"? Were Ash and Misty the first ones to sing a duet? Nope, that's an Ash and Dawn thing. "High Touching" is what's more important. The value of the high five can be diminished, but not the value of the High Touch. Singing about how you love each other's smile is much more awesome that a simple high five. Ash and Dawn were the first ones to sing in a duet and in an opening together, so take that.

Ash can high five anyone. It won't be as special as it was with Dawn. FACT

I agree, so when people compare a normal high five between Ash and another girl to High Touch, I have to wonder how they make a connection like that, or if they even understood the meaning of the song. High Touch already makes pearlshipping seem like it will happen, or at the very least, should prevent other ships from happening

Ash high fives with anyone is simply a celebration of victory.
Ash and Dawn's high five is not just a victory celebration. It's a baton pass.
How else can you describe each other's strength and weaknesses, and their passions and depressions that both shared throughout the series?

How else can you describe each other's strength and weaknesses, and their passions and depressions that both shared throughout the series? Yeah. If anything, Ash and Dawn's high fives are symbolic, much like the fish hook and the half ribbon. Only their high five is a stronger symbol because it shows they don't need anything to remember each other.

I agree, one or even several high fives can't be considered true hints unless there's something more. High Touch fill that roll and makes theirs stand out. Others may claim it's still just a sign of friendship but the lyrics suggest something much deeper.

You can't have romance without friendship.

You can't have romance without friendship. Well it's possible, but it wouldn't last for very long. It's the friendship that keep two people in a relationship together for a long time, and Ash and Dawn have just that. Ash and Dawn have the closest relationship, so if all of the Ash pairs got married, Ash and Dawn would last the longest.

Agreed. Which is why an everlasting and caring friendship is a big part of romance. There must always be more to it than simply pair a boy and a girl. Otherwise, what was the point?

True, the anime isn't exactly about romance and expecting something obviously romantic from Ash would be madness. So it comes down to the friendship and bond they're sharing (even more so than usual), which happens to be their strong suit. Their high fives are just another strong symbol for that.
