They spoiled Iris alright with such Pokémon, without training it to evolve and such, but just catching it! Dawn on the other hand, she trained and took perfect care of her Pokémon and look at them now: they are powerful and mighty.

It annoyed me so much the way Dawn lost to Iris in the Junior Cup too!
How did Dragonite take like 3 or 4 super effective hits, then take down Mamoswine with one hit? -.-

That's understandable. It was indeed inconsistent.
But you have to remember: BW was the worst out there, the writers were inconsistent, so you could say it was expected.
