pkpeachbomber Yeah, so even though Iris didn't have much screen time, she'd be above Misty and Serena any day for me. A lot of people didn't like Iris at first but I gave her a chance. Yeah personally her theme is one of my favourites, next to Dawn's theme. But the thing that made me like iris was her development. Misty's was bland and serenas is so unorganized Mhmm her battle theme was so great. By your side is also great. I love the 2007 remaster |

pkpeachbomber Yeah I totally get you. One thing that bothers me about Serena is that the writers are seeming to play favourites with her and I find it a tad unfair. Yeah you're right, does Serena have her own theme?

They've got parallels, a theme song, high fives, and their starters are best friends! Yeah serena has the xy ending theme and its catchy af |

It's been a long time since I've seen the original series, and I can't really remember Misty having any serious development. Although she claimed she wanted to become a water master, she did remarkibly little for it, and was just there for the most time. Her outbursts were the most memorable part of her.
May was much better in that regard, though I don't think it's comparable to Dawn, who went from a driven, whiny, yet overconfident coordinator to a much more mature person, who learned from her mistakes.
I can't say much about Iris, for I haven't watched the entire series, but I didn't like the parts I watched too much.
The same could be said about Serena, though I watched even less, and liked those parts at the beginning even less.
All of the girls have their flaws, but since Serena was the one who made me stop watching the series so early, I'd probably chose her her.
I really shouldn't write things when I'm so tired.

I'm going to actually defend Misty's character on this one. When Pokémon first started, it was aired towards boys. No one would really watch the show if a girl was actually acting like a 'girl'. Of course Misty needed to have a tomboy-ish attitude because it was more relatable to the key audience for Pokémon. Once the show progressed, writer's began to notice that girls are starting to watch the show and playing the games to they had to create new characters so that they can make them relatable to the growing number of fans.
As for the 'abusive' behavior Misty had towards Ash was for the sake of comic relief. Writer's have to balance between the story, the context, and the humor so that the show wouldn't be so uninteresting. This could be related to Sakura towards Naruto in the Naruto series (which I hate as of November 6th, 2014). People believed that Sakura was abusive towards Naruto when actually it was there for the sake of comedy. No one wants to watch a long-running show if there's no balance between the seriousness and the slap-stick that the story needs.
Despite the criticism Misty had with her attire and her character, it is not her fault. The writer's had to make her that way because Pokémon was geared towards boys in the beginning. Now that Pokémon is geared to both gender's, people these days would criticise what Misty was created to be. In conclusion, I would recommend to look at Misty's character in a different angle rather than just saying she's a negative impact on Ash in that matter.

When I tried to look that up I learned that AZ's theme was used for the haircut scene (wow  ) It's not that I don't like her, its that I don't respect her: a boy comes around and helps her stand up and that makes him her knight in shining armor? What kind of a reason for a crush is that, and how did she manage to keep her feelings for him for so long just from that moment and get a Pokémon and go on a journey from it? Pathetic. |
