Hey guys, I would like your thoughts on this.
High fives are the trademark of Pearlshipping. But some say that high fives show that Pearlshipping is just good friendship, that's all. Ash and Dawn have high fived their Pokémon and other trainers, and then they'll say Ash and Dawn high fiving each other a lot make them great/best friends but nothing more.
All I can think of is this line from High Touch:
When Ash and Dawn high five other Pokémon and trainers, they just feel happy - they're happy in their mind but the high five doesn't impact the heart. But when Ash and Dawn high five each other, it's heartwarming to them. In other words, generic high fives don't make Ash or Dawn feel bonded and connected with the other person, but SatoHika high fives do.
Still, there's so much that I feel I'm missing - that's why I want your thoughts.
What is it that make the SatoHika high fives greater normal ones between any two friends? How do the high fives show Ash and Dawn go beyond a good friendship?

High Five is a symbol, when it comes to Dawn and Ash. You have seen how many times they did it, right? It's more than just a casual action, it's another form of them communicating, outside of their usual conversations. They're comfortable with this communication because they trust one another. And they're happy about it.

for me it's more of someone personal between each other. we never really see them do this with anyone else. it's only for them. it's a affirmation of their unique bond.

NovaStorm bit late but I was actually thinking about this for the past day since that question does require a bit of thought. I think it symbolises unity. When there are shots of them highfiving the hands usually stay there for a moment longer than say, how we would high five in real life (they do have some high fives that are shorter though) but it's kind of like they're sharing positive thoughts. That was a really crappy explanation but it's kind of hard to elaborate. I'll post again if I think of anything.

Some may think it just symbolizes friendship but no way is that possible! I can't type what I feel but I've got one other proof which no one can deny! When the two first high fived( or was it the last one?) , there was a close up of their hands and the clap was pretty loud! It can show that even the writers take the Satohika high five seriously!

It was the first high five they do that, and the high fives are highly emphasized. The last one was my favorite because it was so drawn out and dawn was the one who asked for it and ash was so happy about it. It really showed how much they matured and cared for each other.

High fives are a cool symbol of Ash and Dawn’s friendship.
