I have this aching suspicion that iris gary may misty and hunter j will come back.
Keep in mind how we know literally nothing about j's whereabouts. She "died" on a cliffhanger and she's definitely the kind of person to be interested in mega evolutions. Remember the gardevoir fiasco? What if she's out to get stronger Pokémon to sell on the blackmarket or whatever she does? Diantha has the strongest gardevoir on the entire planet pretty much. That HAS to be an eye catcher for her. On top of that, mega evolution is the perfect excuse to bring her back. Also, if i remember, gary came back in a J episode right? Plus gary has been absent since then- not appearing in bw. Also, x and y has his champion theme hidden in the games files. AND an npc in the game says that oak's son is traveling the region. May i think will return because of oras and her blaziken who got no screen time in her dp cameo. Same with misty. She's been gone for ages and they had that thing with her gyarados who probably would mega evelove too. But those are just me thinking out loud.
Iris... iris should return not only because of the "last series girl returns the following series" cameo pattern but iris could totally be involved with mega dragons. She would be all over rayquaza and could probably figure out goomy's tragic backstory. Also her reaction to fairies??
Another thing I'd like to touch on is dawn. I don't think dawn will appear in the anime itself... but, i do think that she will appear in the mega evolution special. Keep in mind, she's currently visiting hoenn and johto. I'm thinking that she definitely saw that scene with mega rayquaza kyogre and groudon. Maybe she ran into iris in her johto journey after leaving unova and went with iris to kalos. I'm pretty sure they both know about ash jumping off of lumiose tower too. (Plus-back to iris- remember iris's special? She SAW rayquaza. If iris saw rayquaza flying around all willy nilly then I'm sure she followed it to kalos. Idk how but knowing iris...) also, I've said this before but lumiose in kalos is the direct parallel to the fashion capital of the world. Pokechic HAS to be well know. Dawn's buneary is a star- not to mention it's appearance in the wallace cup and contributing to dawn's grand festival position which for a first time rookie was EXCEPTIONAL. Dawn got top 2 on her first shot there is no reason for her to not be all over kalos. Sure she's no diantha but seriously this doesnt make sense at all. Also, she's got that princess doppelganger's togekiss. Shes got a lot of reasons to show up i just don't get why she hasn't. She probably won't appear but its a nice thought.
