Inevitably, we all come to the point where a post just wouldn't be perfect without an image! Here's how to include an image in your post.
1. Make sure you're on desktop mode. There IS a way to post on mobile version, but I'll come to that at the end. To do this, just scroll to the bottom and click "desktop". If you're on a PC you'll already be on desktop mode of course! If you're on a mobile and just clicked desktop for the first time, congratulations! You should see many new features of vault such a the sidebar and the Project Network page. That's why if you've always been on mobile, I would advise you to go on desktop at least once. It should load pretty quickly. On my old budget smartphone it was pretty slow, but on most smartphones it should be easy to use.
2. Next, go on the thread you're replying to if you haven't already. You know the reply box right?
Don't click "post quick reply". Click the reply button on the top right of the box, which should lead to a FULL reply box.
3. Click the picture icon, and a box should pop up, telling you to put your image's URL (if you don't know how to get one, I'll get onto that) in. The alt text is the text that displays if the images doesn't load. You can just leave that blank unless you prefer to do otherwise.
Then click insert image on the pop up box, and finish off your post- add text, all that stuff. When you post, the image(s) should appear.
IMAGE URL?
If your image is under 1MB and saved to your computer or phone, then you can upload it as an attachment. However, data storage on Vault is limited, and there is a chance attachments won't display for whatever reason, which is why uploading your image to an external host an putting the url in the box mentioned earlier in the post is advisable.
To upload your image to your host, it has to be saved on your device first. So for example if you were making a banner on Fotor, an online program, save it first. If you were making it on gimp, a downloaded program, your end product will be a .xcf file. Use an online converter to change it to a JPEG/JPG file or PNG file. (PNG files keep transparent parts transparent so use PNG if your image is transparent). I use this online converter. Other members, banner making or fanart making ones especially, can advise you on other programs if you don't like this one.
Then it's time choose your host. If you want to keep your images in a nice pretty collection, photobucket is one a lot of people use. I've recently started using postimage.org as well, which I am using to host these screenshots on and it loads a lot faster but the interface isn't as pretty. The thing about postimage.org is you can upload images without making an account (there IS an option to make an account, though) However, they both give you a link. Use the DIRECT LINK to put into the image pop up box.
Remember to make sure your images aren't too big! I would advise a width no more than 800px, and height is variable according to the width of course. If your image is, eg., 2000 px wide, I would divide the width and height by four and resize the image. You don't even need a program to resize the image. If you have to resize it, use the HTML code below and copy and paste it into your post, filling in the values to substitute the writing I've put in caps.
If you do this then you don't need to go on desktop version or use the fully reply image pop up box.
