The XY Ash

Oh, when I said XY Ash I meant the whole series, including XYZ. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. XY Ash was a “battle drone” without much else going for him. He felt artificial…watered down. I personally felt he was more himself, and more fun, in BW. Sure, the XY series was going for a more mature, serious Ash. But AG and DP did the same while still retaining his fun personality. Sure, he was a “badass” in XY. But it was all mainly in the epic poses, camera angles, and more mature art style. All outward stuff. His strategies weren’t all that innovative, as much as I remember. His gym battles were forgettable. I personally found the battles in BW more entertaining and still remember them, even though he was kind of in a funk. I mentioned SM because his enthusiastic personality returned, with a little bit of the ‘class clown’ vibe added in to fit the tone of that series. He was all around a lot more fun/entertaining, but still experienced and showed innovative/interesting strategies in his battles in Alola. By comparison, XY Ash felt bland and pretentious. I’m one of those who much prefers everything about SM (the art style, animation, tone, premise, etc.) to XY. Lol, I could go on…I’m full of unpopular opinions like this. There’s a way to write a more mature Ash (AG and DP); XY is not it.
