@ruby, not really. The TPCI dub was closer to the japanese version for the most part(except DP180, where they replaced 'cool' with 'handsome' for some reason). If the 4kids dubbed DP, it would've horrible. 4kids would've made Ash say something like "I miss Misty" or making up fake Pokeshipping hints in most of the DP episodes. On top of that they'd remove Pearlshipping hints.
And the TPCI dub is not that bad. I know many of you guys are dissapointed that TPCi replaced High Touch with another song(Stand Up Battle Cry) in movie 12), but look at the bright side. the TPCi dub-made movie 12 song inculded these following lyrics:
Stand up! (Stand up!) For what is right Be brave! (Be brave!) Get ready to fight Hold on! (Hold on!) We're friends for life And if we come, together as one, Complete the quest, that we've began, We will win the battle, Pokémon!
The dub intentionally made these lyrics to showcase Ash and bond. Yeah they're not as strong as High Touch, but it's still something. So the dub isn't all that bad.

So... they try to make it a little ambiguious. The bold message there I think leans more on the Pokémon team and their trainer than anything else, really.

In my opinion, the dub can manipulate all it wants, the real fans will stick to the original and those who don't shouldn't be taken seriously until they can back up their claims with real evidence. And right now, High touch is something utterly unique with a clear message.

And right now, High touch is something utterly unique with a clear message. Very true. Another way to look at Battle Cry Stand Up is that the dub could have known about High Touch. But I'll bet you anything that the dub wants to keep Ash and Dawn as "just friends" and nothing more. That could be why the line "We're friends for life" was emphasized because that's all they want people to know what Ash and Dawn think of each other. There are also plenty of other scenes that were exaggerated or supressed by the dub. In the episode Glory Blaze, Dawn said "Love, that's the key" and then immediately thought of Ash. But because the dub (probably) wanted to keep Ash and Dawn as "just friends", they changed love to friendship. And don't even get me started on how the dub helps Pokeshipping. -_-

I've lost faith in dubs generally. They rearrange scripts, they alter certain scenes (whether cut-off, added in, or simply changes it altogether) and they shift atmospheres in the most puzzling ways.
Only the Dragonball series is my favorite dub version. Don't know if there are others that are even close to that quality work.

As for Pokémon, I liked the original series dub, just not the manipulations they did.

[about the Poké dub songs] The songs themselves are even nice, but... it's all so fake! As you guys said, they are never that close in the show. And by this I don't mean like "PokéShipping does not exist" or whatever, we know it's a shipping that exists and blah (but doesn't meet our expectations for sure ). The point is, they don't have that type of bond. These songs are very forced in sort of classical romance idea, like okay, romance is *insert stereotypical stuff*. There are no unique things, and that's because these songs are originated from nowhere (no references from the actual series). 4Kids really attempted to ruin the dub and the "international" version of the Original Series. These lovey-dovey stuff out from nowhere is really depressing. You can see the difference with a REAL development, like PearlShipping's, from a thousand miles away. [about eventual Pearl dub songs] We know for sure that dub songs mean literally nothing - only original songs like HT and Kimi no Mune mean stuff - but, however, to see the new dub giving little hints about Pearl is a bit of a relief. I expecially like the ending of the Zoroark movie, "I Believe in you" - if that was a japanese song, it would be a gigantic hint, because it's clearly Dawn's POV towards Ash, that's the only explanation. It fast became one of my favourite dub songs ever - aside from ships it's a GREAT one!

You're right; it actually is closer to the original despite certain moments like DP180. The real baddies are 4Kids and their Pokeshipping. In that sense, it's actually a good thing that 4Kids stopped dubbing Pokémon.

I think both studios are die hard pokeshippers but yeah I agree, TPCI isn't as bad as 4Kids.
