It's hard to believe that we're really at the end for Ash. It feels like someone is sitting on my chest rn
Honestly, I'm still trying to process the fact that Ash won't be a protagonist in just a few weeks.
What did you all think of the final episode and what it means for Ash and his friends?

I know this sounds corny and kinda pathetic but, it feels like having to say goodbye to an old friend. I'm old enough to have grown up with these characters since the very beginning. And even though I didn't seriously watch the anime till my early 20s - Ash, Pikachu, Misty, Brock, Gary, etc. are all familiar faces from my childhood. I guess part of the melancholy is it reminds me of happier days, and of when my brother was still around. Maybe a lot of people have similar feelings about it. It just felt like Ash would always be the main character, and would always be around to hang out with. (Lol, do I sound unhinged yet?) I actually got really bummed out back in December when I first heard the news. And I avoided looking at anything Pokémon-related until last weekend, when the new anime started, because it just depressed me to think about.
But I'm happy we got what we got - 26 years - and even during the low spots, it was pretty damn good. I also quite liked the 11 episode epilogue. It felt low-key and just right. And when he said goodbye to Gary, Misty, and Brock, it was a "see ya later" like nothing has changed. A happily ever after for Ash - cuz he realized his dream is what he's been doing this whole time. And he's going to keep doing that. So it's not "the end" for him. But it's still bittersweet for us.
I do really like what we've seen so far from the new series. It was a great start. I like Liko. She's like the exact opposite of Ash. And that's perfect. I look forward to following her (and Roy and the others) adventures and development. And who knows? Maybe Ash and friends will show up again someday.
