Once PM2019 ends and is replaced with PM2022. I have noticed something very peculiar. And that is the promotion of not just Pikachu as the usual mascot, but also Pochama and Eievui. And not just that, but they were also promoted alongside the Paldea starters of Scarlet and Violet in some of their upcoming recent merchandise.
From a marketing perspective, this makes sense to a degree because these three are the most popular Pokémon in Japan. But these are not just promotions for previous games and current games but also as a way of promoting Pokémon games on mobile phones such as Pokémon Masters EX given the shift in current promotion trends in the Pokémon series.
In all likelihood, Satoshi will still there but Hikari is also most likely to return, along with a high chance that Go and Koharu will likely return for the next series. But these are just my thoughts on the matter and these cannot be merely coincidental.

I think it's interesting. Knowing absolutely nothing about a new anime series at this moment, Eevee makes sense, but Piplup being used for marketing is an interesting choice. Whether or not it's a coincidence is up in the air for right now until more info is released. Ash, Goh and Chloe i would expect for a new series, but I'll be surprised if Dawn returns as she's been out of the main cast since the DP era, but anything's possible at the moment.

I came back from Japan recently and Piplup is REALLY popular still. There was also a lot of Pikachu and piplup official merch.

That is pretty shocking to me in the best way possible. I guess the DP Era of the anime REALLY left a mark on the scene as far as Japan goes.

I'll be surprised if Dawn returns as she's been out of the main cast since the DP era, but anything's possible at the moment. But she has been written as a ‘main character’ of sorts, having made consistent return appearances in important arcs, including Journeys, more than any of the other main girls. Especially the Arceus specials. They’ve really emphasized her friendship with Chloe…I could see them having a group of 4: Ash, Goh, Chloe, and Dawn, for the next series (being gender balanced is favorable nowadays, after all). We’ll see though.

At this point, it's entirely possible (though unlikely) that Ash might be retired. Whether Goh makes it is up to whatever happens with Project Mew. I'd say he's 50/50. Chloe will probably not continue as a main character, in my view, given that she doesn't have a plot left to cover.
Honestly, I didn't think a return for Dawn would ever become a realistic possibility again, but here we are. I'd like to believe but the whole SM prediction that Dawn would be back kind of burned me.

mobile.twitter.com/prj_pochamaThis is Project Pochama, released in May 2021. It was modeled after the previously successful Project Eevee that was released in November 2017. And both are still ongoing projects to this day. This can be support from Japanese Pokémon staff for Pochama and Hikari’s eventual return to the series for PM2022.
