As expected, Amourshippers feel very upset over this. But either both of them stay or none of them return. It's just that simple. Still have to wait for the special announcement.

Optimistically, there's no Serena present! Time to ask them this question again: Did Amour amount to anything?

If Serena stops travelling with Ash, then that's gotta suck really bad for Amourshippers.

Judging by Ash's sick dance moves it'll probably be a musical
AND unless she's on the other page, no Serena! She's better off sticking to the status quo anyway

If Serena stops travelling with Ash, then that's gotta suck really bad for Amourshippers. I'm playing Devil's Advocate here, but it feels out of place. Given what we know of Serena's personality, it's out of character for her but it's considered to be suboptimal character development. Serena just isn't as developed enough compared to Dawn. And given how they've given signs for green lighting a Dawn return, and for them to renege on their assurance that she might return, doesn't sit well with me at all. If Dawn doesn't return this year, she isn't ever going to return at all. Sad, but I honestly hope their new series would either get me hyped for it or just hope it flops. It's probably funny for the writers to treat Serena worse than Iris. Much to Amourshippers getting salty about it. Because of the nature of her Kalos goal, she isn't going to get a cameo or a special episode. And the only writer who has been semi-sympathetic for Serena are Omode and maybe Tomioka.

I am very upset for this also I can't help it but think this is a very risky move on their part. They want to emulate and mimic Yokai Watch. But as of late Yokai Watch's momentum is slowing and decreasing. It's latest game didn't really sell well compared to its other games. They pretty much chose a bad time for this just so they want their target demographic back. They've risked it all on this one show, but something that's perceived as a mix of BW and Yokai Watch is going to backfire on them. They should have played it safe with both Dawn and Serena, and their ratings might actually increase like they did with Dawn's cameo. I don't think any of the Alola girls are going to enjoy the same popularity clout as Dawn and Serena had.

Could this be a chance for Ash to get out of his dense state?

As I've said before: If Serena does stay, this would be a strong indicator of Dawn returning. This would mean they're willing to break those patterns.
But to have Megumi Toyoguchi claim that she will 'definitely' return to the series as a regular character, coupled with teases of a possible Dawn return, only for the execs to axe the idea of bringing back Dawn, really would be misleading. Dawn just has to come back, because if only Serena is there, that would mean they're making Amour defacto canon.
But because so far the preview we see recurring characters in the series. And the school is a metaphor for the Alolan island challenge. But hey, there may be something else in store for us.
