You don't have to know Japanese to understand but their overall message can still be understood and appreciated.
The Sun/Moon male protagonist does remind me of Ash but with a few minor adjustments, the female protagonist reminds me a bit of Dawn, just more like game Dawn but with a different outfit and hairstyle. Dawn appealed to Japanese girls and that's also why Pearlshipping main demographic are the same as Dawn fans. Both female protagonists in the DP games and SM games represent and resemble ideal Japanese female Pokémon fans.
The overall message of Sun and Moon is that Japanese kid travels to Hawaii, feels a little isolated until he makes friends with them all because they play Pokémon. Connecting different peoples through Pokémon. I hope the producers capitalize on this connection. I honestly don't think the female protagonist should be introduced, they should bring back Dawn because she did a hell of a job in promoting Pokémon.

I'm still waiting for whatever more good news planning to be released in the future. Just as long as the direction continues its decent pace and not screw up anymore than what has happened!!

None of the revealed Pokegirls for SM look appealing except maybe Lillie. They really are trying to drive this series into the ground, what the hell were they thinking? Removing Dawn from the series was such a huge mistake, she literally carried the show on her own and the show was stable and sales recovered. Iris already ruined this show, we don't need more Irises! Just bring Dawn back and I'll watch it and maybe forgive them. If they don't, then good luck vs Yokai Watch that's literally kicking its ass.
