bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/I_Believe_in_YouI've heard from many people that the dub ending theme to Movie 13 is just as good as the Japanese for shippiness. Is this a good/valid Pearlshipping song? Would this be a good song to analyze and use as [Dawn] hints? This Movie 13 music stuff is interesting. On the JP side, we have a song about Ash's feelings for Dawn and on the dub side we have a song about Dawn's feelings for Ash. Lyrics: Who do I turn to when things are broken? Where do I go when I'm feeling alone? Who's always there with arms wide open, it's you. Yeah, it's you.
Where do I hide when it's dark and stormy? Where do I run when it's all too much? Who gives me hope when I wake each morning, it's you. Yeah, it's you.
You were there for me in my darkest days, You cared for me when I lost my way, My guiding light, you always pulled me through, I believe in you.
Yeah yeah.
When I stumble and fall, you take my hand. When I don't have a clue, you know what to do. When nothing makes sense, you help me to understand. It's true.
It seems like forever, it's been you and me. I know who you really are. Sometimes I wonder where would I be without you?
Yeah yeah.
You were there for me in my darkest days, You cared for me when I lost my way, My guiding light, you always pulled me through, Yeah, you gave me strength when I was weak, You were my voice when I could not speak, One ray of hope that I could hold onto, Yeah, I believe in you.
Yeah, I believe in you.
You were there for me in my darkest days, You cared for me when I lost my way, My guiding light, you always pulled me through, Yeah, you gave me strength when I was weak, You were my voice when I could not speak, One ray of hope that I could hold onto, Yeah, I believe in you.
You were there for me in my darkest days, You cared for me when I lost my way, My guiding light, you always pulled me through, Yeah, I believe in you.
Yeah, I believe in you.

When I listen to this song on my ipod, I DO think of Pearlshipping. I'm glad you posted this- there's a lot to discuss. There is one point that comes to mind.
The question of the dub. Western songs love going down the romantic route. But then again, the endings for Movie 11 and 12 aren't that shippy (dubwise)

But then again, the endings for Movie 11 and 12 aren't that shippy (dubwise) However, we did use "Where The Lost Ones Go" as evidence and it was dubbed. So what's not to say that this is evidence as well? Besides, Pokeshippers use their dub songs as evidence. It seems like forever, it's been you and me.I just know the song is inspired by Ash and Dawn. The lyrics show the experience of a journey and particularly takes place the end of one. The song is also clearly a reflection of those past experiences. What other 'general' experience is there to talk about? I bet the songwriter was aware that M13 was the last Sinnoh movie.

What I meant is that just as Where the Lost Ones go was the ending for the Japanese movie, I'll always remember you is the English movie 10 equivalent, and I Believe in You is the English ending for Movie 13 while Ice Cream Syndrome is the ending for Japanese movie 13. But yes, the song does resonate with Pearlshipping. If it were the song for the Japanese movie, I would be convinced that the song was Ash's viewpoint due to the mentions of "guiding light".

I think's it's interesting that Where the Lost Ones Go wasn't created for the movie and was a song released in 2000. I guess the lyrics can still apply to the song, though. Wow, I didn't think the Japanese would use an English song for their ending. As for "I Believe in You", I guess you could say it's the job of John Loeffler (the one who wrote the song) to write songs specifically for the anime. Because of this, he likely wrote the song so it had something to do with the anime. And that's means Dawn. It seems like forever, it's been you and me. I know who you really are. Sometimes I wonder where would I be without you? This line shows it's not Dawn's mother; this shows she is talking about a journey together with someone. But what if it's Piplup? You were there for me in my darkest days, You cared for me when I lost my way, My guiding light, you always pulled me through, I believe in you. This shows the singer looks up to the 'you' person, so Dawn can't be singing about Piplup. It's someone that pulls her through, but we already know it can't be her mother. That leaves one last thing. What if it is a Pokémon singing about it's trainer? What if it's Piplup singing about Dawn? Overall, the song assumes the singer is independent. "When I lost my way" and "When things are broken". Pokémon simply follow the way of their trainer. But humans have their own way, so I think this song is mostly about Dawn singing to Ash. Or since the songwriter is male, then vice versa.
