Hey. Look at this fanfiction. m.fanfiction.net/s/10044699/1/And check the reviews. It's an interesting way to get more reviews. But I see an overwhelming majority people voting for amours hopping and advance shipping. Ouch.

The "vote for the ship" technique. I've never tried it myself.

I don't support that way of getting reviews honestly. That's just equal to any other cheap method -_- I say that an author has to earn good and constructive reviews. Plus, that story is not catching my interest. The characters are OOC which is sorta bad. Them being OOC isn't helping the fic, it's just a clear definition of 'My world, my way'. The writer changed how the characters behave without any legit reason or back-story. Fan-fiction isn't when you change the way a character behaves, it's when you change the way the plot-line of the original-source flows. If this turned out to be a pearlshipping fan-fiction, then I would still not like it the way I like other PS stories.

I agree with you, Black, that this particular review method is a cheap way to get more reviews, and does not reflect the merit of the writing. A little bit of OOCness, however, might be needed for plot development sometimes. But it should't be outrageous, like when people make Dawn a brat.

Like I stated before, going OOC without a legit reason or back-story is pathetic. If Dawn is over-confident and bubbly, then people should not violate that aspect about her :/ She is not and may I repeat Dawn is NOT a brat -_- I love 3-D characters, but there should be a reason behind them going all 3-D.

Well, ain't that a steaming pile. It really sickens me to see people use such methods to get reviews. Kind of reminds me of people posting those pictures of sick babies in need of surgery on Facebook, saying that a certain number of likes will give the child surgery for free. As noble as that would be, I have yet to hear of a single story where a child's life was saved because they received a free surgery through FB likes. They are all cheap methods to gain five seconds of fame and nothing else. In Fanfic terms, this means no constructive criticism to improve the piece. The reviews themselves become more important than the writing. Absolutely disgusting. I'm not saying the author of that fic or other authors who use a similar strategy are aiming for that, but the use of it does rub me the wrong way.

I don't think it's fair for people to vote on what shippings you want to see in a fic. It's your fic and as long as make sure it's within the websites term of services, then anything goes. I think it gives false hope to other readers. I've found being active in communities, taking part in community projects like review games and award ceramonies has been a really great way for reviews, not always in big quantity but of quality too.

See, I believe there's a term for this, but it escapes me. I'm all for alternate-ending voting, but seeing as though all the reviews are "DO ADVANCE!!1!1!1!!!!" And "OMG AMOUR PLZ" is pretty irritating. I'd soon rather write amour than get ALL of my reviews to shout ships at me. This author must have a will of steel, because I'd lose my temper w/ a kind of crowd like this.

The reviews aren't really saying their thoughts about the actually story itself. But I agree, Miester, you can make a poll for this sort of stuff if you really want people to crowd 'round and vote! Those 140 reviews, I bet more than half of them are just filled up wit comments about which ship readers want it to be. I can't stand to looks at all the "Do Amour!" "Please DO ADVANCE!" . . . I don't even want to class those as reviews anymore if that's all the author's going to see.
