Okay, I have to put this out there, but in a lot of ways, isn't it almost like Serena is a slightly different copy-and-paste version of Dawn? Even their entrance on the first episode is practically the same!!!! They both enter contests and get pretty far, but never achieve their goals. (Even though Dawn deserved to due to all the struggling she went through beforehand) It's absolutely crazy to me how similar the two of them are, other than Serena having different character traits and being slightly Ash-Crazy. But in all seriousness, am I the only one who sees this??!!

We’re gonna need way more examples before any real conclusion can be drawn. Not to mention a lot could be said about every other girl. Iris and misty are highly similar. Serena, May and Dawn are all pretty alike too. It’s usually the same story retold according to the characters personality and such. Dawn didn’t need a TON of development where as May and Serena both needed to figure out what they wanted in life and how to adapt to being a trainer (if that’s honestly what I’d even call Serena half the time) so that’s my main thing. I more so see Serena as a second May but with the shipping attraction like Dawns. I just don’t really care for the way they handled Serena’s growth period or her development as a trainer. I think I would have liked her more if they toned down the shipping (but by all means keep it as it’s interesting to see) and had more focus on her growing with her Pokémon and genuinely developing into a mature young lady. Dawn really had herself and her Pokémon showcased rather than her and Ash all the time on screen. That’s one reason why High Touch is so special and why I think they connected more personally. Phew that was a tangent and a half...

Serena only left home because she saw Ash on the news. She isn't really a trainer. Her whole motivation is Ash. She doesn't even really train her Pokémon.
