Mikuri said this to Hikari, but it (with some corrections, which don't affect its model; the original is in brackets) should really have been heard by Serena. Ways of showing off affection (techniques) is only a fourth of it. But you're too absorbed in showing off affection (moves). Without thinking only of showing off, it'll be more natural.
I'm sorry, but this is who exactly Serena was and what she lacked. Only this aspect ruined the whole concept of successful SatoSere - being shy, timid and passive around Satoshi has got her almost nowhere. She wasn't as active and appealing as Hikari for Satoshi. Just ask yourself frankly if Serena's influence on Satoshi was as super effective as Hikari's and answer not blindly, not here but to yourself.
Hikari's super effective influence on Satoshi: rescuing Pikachu alone with Pochama (otherwise he wouldn't be thankful to her at the start of DP), convincing him to participate in 2! contests (the first one and Mikuri Cup), cheering for him in gym battles, encouraging and supporting him almost everywhere, be it a practice battle or just walking or standing beside him (including making a circus perfomance), being a frequent partner in practice battles, moves being used by him after they were noticed in her training and contests (I can name 4! of them), helping and caring for his Pokémon (Gliger/Glion, Mukubird, Fukamaru, Pikachu, Hikozaru, Naetle), making him interested in things (poketch, 'PokeCan', poffins, dress-up contest, uninhabitant island with a shiny Iwark), her 'daijoubu, daijoubu' catchphrase that is used by him, an attempt to save his life with a risk for herself to be dead (this could be a serious reason why Satoshi was extremely worried about her in a maze in DP 046, the events in 'The Rise of Darkrai' had happened before it).
