The XY staff and directors are completely new, so they might not know anything about Pearlshipping. Even though it is early, anything can happen and there is the rest of the XY series to come. How will this affect Pearlshipping's longevity? Will directors push Amour forward all the way at the end? Or have they seen Pearlshipping and will keep it?

Who are actually now doing the XY-series anyways? Anyone have confirmation on that one? I've heard many times that it is the staff of the Pokémon Origins, any confirmation on that?

Well it is the new staff that started Amour as it seems (unless there was planning). Who knows what the new staff know about Pearl? They can do what they want as far as I see it.
If Amour doesn't become canon, the case for Pearl will be much stronger. We will then see that the childhood friend thing really did come into play. Idk, let's see if popularity can make this ship canon or not.

I don't think popularity is the main thing that is needed to push a ship into being canon. Look at Pearlshipping. Pearlshipping is the most popular ship out there and as of now, is not yet canon. There are just many more factors out there that influences ships, one of them, simply the writers, which is not always great.

So Pearl is more popular than Amour? I thought it was the opposite way.

Pearl is still very popular in Japan but Amour is the flavor of the month (or 3 year window) so to speak. They did the most marketing for Pearl so time will tell if Amour catches up with it. Pearl has staying power that rivals the nostalgic Poke crowd in America....

I actually meant to say was. But as Hika said. For now it is Amourshipping that is popular, what is always the case with new series, especially when it's a one-sided crush. People immediately jump into conclusions. Pearlshipping will always stand ground.

But Amour recently dethroned Pokeshipping in the America, it's close to being dead by any estimation.
From what I've gathered, Pearl is still dominant in Japan even after Amour. They're able to keep their cool. But the main popularity struggle is between Advance and Amour in Japan, with Amour possibly inching bit by bit. That's not to say it's specifically shipping as the main reason, but fan favorites.
The traditional demographic of Pearlshipping are Japanese girls, as the same as Contestshipping. The traditional demographic of Advanceshipping are Japanese guys, but they are also known for being a significant part of the Pearlshipping demographic. Given that most Pokémon fans are male, it sort of evens out the Pearlshipping demographic.
Amourshipping is sort of the spanner in the works because it doesn't really cater to any specific demographic from what I know. Japanese Pearlshippers do tend to have an overtly negative opinion of Serena. It's unknown why Advanceshipping still has a following, but it seems that I might think that they have found some sort of common cause with Pearlshippers. They probably dislike Serena as just as much as Pearlshippers dislike Serena.
The other two, Pokeshipping and Negaishipping had such ridiculously small followings compared to Pearl and Advance by the time XY aired, they already went into retreat, assuming that they haven't become Amourshippers.

So the Advancers were right about mostly males being for Advance and females for Pearl. I feel I'm really in the minority now.
It's hard to believe Amour has topped Poke. That's really only in serebii; if you ask anyone that watched the show they will mostly recognize Ash and Misty since they're "original".
But it's true if you say it is. I guess this is about the modern followers of the show, not ones that stopped watching.
