I don't know. I haven't researched what the latest style in Japan is. I don't think Serena's outfit will be based off Japan's fashion style anyway since Kalos is based off France.

So it's based on France's new trend? Noooooo!

Definitely not french culture. French culture is MUCH more stylish; at least, that's what i think since I study the culture.

It's all about the fanservice. A female character with an appealing visual design with a canon crush on the MC was enough to win over the fans. She's considered "waifu material". Well said.

I like Serena's new design better, we have too much girls with long hair.
But the thing about Serena was she is a character added in at the last minute, give her Dawn's face and have her personality only be Amourshipping. Not surprisingly, Serena like Iris is a lot less popular than Dawn over in Japan.
It seems clear to me that they planned for Dawn to remain or come back in the series but mainly:
BW had to mimic OS XY not only had the wrong timing for Dawn but also had to parallel AG These are two big reasons why they didn't bring dawn back. But these decisions hurt the popularity of the show even after Dawn came back for her cameo appearance. But Serena had no goal for almost a year, then they decided to make up Pokémon performances out of the blue and give Serena a goal and development cause she had none. Serena like Iris made the shows status even worse despite how much they wanted to distance themselves from BW. Eventually they will have to end the current storyline. Sun and Moon coupled with the possibility of Diamond and Pearl remakes is their picture perfect opportunity. For Sun and Moon does seem a lot more poised for a Dawn return than before. But I still have my doubts. In Japan, Dawn had the same status that Misty enjoyed in the west. Until Amour literally demolished the western fan base, but Dawn was largely immune to the effects of Amourshipping and Serena.

Honestly, Serena is just too shy to act on her crush with Ash. She wanted to dance with him but when she was about to dance with Ash she hesitated. She just can't bond with him, like how Dawn bonds with Ash easily. Can you imagine Serena doing the things Dawn would do to Ash? She sure as hell won't do any of them and end up blushing or spilling her spaghetti. Dawn by comparison is just dense like Ash is, but at least Ash looks like he gets along better with Dawn than Serena. If Serena acted a bit more like Dawn and Dawn acted a bit more like Serena, then I would have a different opinion.
Almost everyone in Sinnoh and Unova are aware of Ash and Dawn's strong bonds. But obviously there is a lack of romantic tendencies but some like Lyra want to take their relationship a step further. Almost everyone in Kalos wants Serena to act on her crush with Ash, at least do something about it. But she's too shy to act on building a relationship with Ash.
Can you imagine Serena putting on a cheerleader outfit and cheering for Ash like Dawn did? I doubt it, Serena has to do the same or similar things Dawn did to make an impact on Ash's life. The only thing she did do was throwing snowballs and yelling at him after she got lashed out by Ash.

She could. I mean, she did experience all that performing in the Master Class. Didn't all that provided Serena the desire to cheer up people? I wish Serena went a better route on handling the despaired Ash from his 1st loss against Wulfric.

I wish Serena went a better route on handling the despaired Ash from his 1st loss against Wulfric. I'd have to go into my theories again. Serena likes to take in things and empathize with people. Her head can be stuck too far in the clouds in regards to Ash, that simple actions by Ash are interpreted as something great by Serena. Dawn is more like Serena's antithesis. Dawn does a better job in cheering up Ash simply because she likes to give more than receive. Because she's that magnanimous of a person compared to Serena. Serena bakes things for Ash expecting to receive something in return. What Serena needs to learn is that she needs to learn how to give rather than receive. She does those little things just so Ash can notice her and expects a miracle from him. Yet she forgets who the real Ash is and that Dawn has already entered his heart. Dawn does all those cheering just because she wants to help him out, there was no romantic intent behind them. Just like how Ash cheered up Dawn with ice cream. And I do feel that Serena can get a little bit selfish because of her romantic tendencies despite her empathy. Her performing career is just a means of getting Ash to notice her. Dawn cheers to help Ash regain his resolve and because Dawn is being herself but if Serena could do something like Dawn did, she'd do it mainly for getting Ash to notice her and fall in love with her. But Serena is just too passive to do big things for Ash, too passive to act out on her crush. Dawn would have cheered him up anyway doing what she normally does.

All this Serena talk is making believe that she's an INFP with all her idealism.
