Been reading through the Amourshipping hints on bulbapedia to update myself in case we missed any hints here, and I noticed that Serena seeks Ash's approval after literally anything she does. I'm not saying Dawn is perfect, but at least she has independence, which Serena (even after getting a haircut) has yet to display in acceptable amounts.
Personally, I've tried to not mind Amourshipping but it still irks me, and I think it always will.

Serena right now to me is still what has been making me a little worried since she was revealed to have a crush. 1) She's so centered around getting Satoshi's approval that it feels like her crush is being pushed into people's faces. (Wasn't this because the fanbase wanted to see some romance or something?) 2) I appreciate that she has a goal and she has some kick-butt Pokémon skills, but her crush is somehow getting in the way to make her a more developed character in her own, independent realm. 3) Romance is interesting to touch upon, but for some reason, Satoshi is still dense to this day about it and I am wondering if he'll find out more about love in this series. I really don't want it to be forced upon, I really want Satoshi's development to come naturally if something were to happen between him and Serena.
All of this will have to depend on the writer's. The way the story can make it/break it is if they allow to trust their own instincts and do what is best for the series. If romance is somehow a way to conclude a series that really wasn't centered around romance, it's game-over. If the fanbase grabs a hold of this series by the throat for sake of shipping, this could turn into an abusive way of writing on romance, which could endanger not only Satoshi's character, but Serena's as well.

Well at least slowly Serena is developing as a character after the incident on her fisr tripokelon

Okay, I will admit that Serena is a unique character but in these respects:
Superficially similar to Hikari as in initial character design and girlish qualities Development similar to but a lot worse than Haruka; Fennekin shows parallels with Torchic; showing Serena's/Haruka's maturity as a trainer Just as petulant and annoying than Iris and Misty if not more so The only unique aspect that makes her stand out is her obvious one-sided crush. Amourshipping relies on that one crutch and attempt to prove its two-sided.
I'm neutral overall towards her character but Amourshippers are delusional and Amourshipping is just plain one-sided. Eventually the writers need to develop her sooner or later.

I know that Serena's getting some development, but she's still severely underdeveloped and quite a drama queen. "Oh, I must overcome an extreme challenge to save my beloved Pokémon!" The extreme challenge being walking through goddamn mud. Also, after one loss (that wasn't even her or her Pokémon's fault) she starts crying and even cuts her hair. One loss! Now, the Kalos league's already begun and she only has three Pokémon.

She's kind of getting better. Emphasis on kind of. I have a more neutral position of her than I used to. Serena has probably learned if she were to succeed in her 'progress', she has to learn how to give more than receive. Right now she hasn't found it yet, it feels as though they're keeping her development delayed that it would stop midway at the end of XYZ and carry on with her full development in the next series. Somehow she ended up being more obsessive over Ash, as in she is serious about 'winning Ash's love'. And you'd think she would just abandon her crush on him yet then again I don't call her 'anti-Dawn' for nothing. Could she ever get the hint that Ash cares more for Dawn than her?
Now I really hope that Dawn comes back.
