As I believe I mentioned in the Shoutbox, a link to a thread here was shared and reblogged on Tumblr by some of the bigger names in the larger "PokeAni" (short for Pokémon Anime or Animation) fandom. I saw it and was intrigued. |

Thank you kindly. *tips hat* Another Amourshipper? Was there one before? I do hope they were pleasant. No one wins shipping wars, after all. Yes, if I remember his user-name correctly, it's be AreceusKetchmum, a person who was brave and stepped forward to defend his own thinking. He was a pleasant fellow and was true to his shipping, unfortunately, he hasn't come online very often nowadays. I feel I am well acquainted Serena's character. I've written a few analysis on it over on my Tumblr Page. Perhaps you would like to see? As a matter of fact, I would indeed like to see what you think of Serena's character. If you would be kind enough to link me to the page, I'd be grateful. I did not mean to imply that Amourshipping is a threat to you. My apologies. I just meant that since there are lots of people here who aren't in favor of Amourshipping, it makes sense that there are people who don't like Serena are here. I, for one, do not like Contestshipping, but it's only really because I don't like Drew's character. Of course, I never denied the fact that there aren't members here who hate Serena because of Amourshipping. I just said that there are people like me, who dislike Serena in general. I understand the frustrations of Serena's character. BELIEVE ME! There's nothing more frustrating than writing a battle with ONE Pokémon who knows ONE Move in fanfics. She really does need to do more. I am not blind to her faults. I am a fan regardless. I understand what you're trying to imply, but then again, that is only a fragment of her whole list of flaws. True, I don't expect her to be a perfect character but I do expect her to be something better than she already is now. Serena does not have what it takes to be a trainer, and there is nothing wrong with what I've said for I have confidencewith what I stated before.. I do not believe I bashed the ideas or thoughts of any members here. Thank you for your advice. I will be on my best behavior. I never accused you of bashing anybody. I just said that it'd be unwise to do so. Great to see that you understand. I like to think Purim is unique. But my username does carry a bit of my "brand" with me, so to speak. That's fascinating to know... |

The first link is infuriating. The top of the thread even told Amourshippers not to read it! We chose whom we bash, and if we do it with evidence we're not being unreasonable. The way those Amourshippers are saying this place is toxic IS the only sickening thing around here. We're bashing Serena the anime character, not them! By the way they talk you'd think we had a gun to the heads of their families. |

I think that the arguments that the people made on it were pointless. How the hell are we bashing because we feel threatened? Heh, it's amusing to see people making assumptions about the big leagues being threatened by the under-dogs =p No, we are bashing within reason. There must be alot of people who dislike Serena overall and not because of Amourshipping. I think that it's ridiculous that they think that this place looks 'toxic'. Can't they understand that it's not necessary that the whole world would like Serena? There will be people who make rude comments about Serena and haters. To be honest, we are them. I am proud of that address and am not afraid to walk into an Amour environment saying that I dislike Serena.
The second link was even more terrible than the first one. Will you please pass on a message to this writer, Purim?
Tell the writer of that post that Serena is not at all an interesting character.
1) She has no goal, she does nothing
I have to correct her that Serena could've started journeying with prior planning. She had time before Ash left Luminous (is that how you spell it?) City and had enough time to think of what she'd do. Serena was too focused on how to introduce herself to Ash to focus on what she'd do with her life. This displays an amateurish personality. If Ryhorn racing was her goal, then why not pursue it? There aren't enough Pokémon based professions in the anime so there isn't aren't many titles to choose from in the first place. Serena doesn't actively help her friends, she acts like the sassy boss of the group. She doesn't come up with clever plans, she butts in on what the others say and steals the spotlight. Serena being a navigator? (The gang would've been be lost because of her!) It's Clemont who does this labor. He is the actual helper among the others. Serena being a baker? How the hell will she bake in the middle of the forest/plain/road or whatever place they're at? Ash and co are travelling, they can't bake unless entering a Pokémon center. Please make sense when you say things like that... T_T I will admit, she does do something, but it's clearly not enough =/ The fact that she isn't pursuing any goal makes her a flat character... don't try to tell me that she is a special case. Every other ten-year-old introduced in the anime is actively pursuing their goal. They're focused, some are even confused but that didn't stop them from trying. Is Serena not 10? why is she THAT confused? I mean, how many Pokémon jobs/professions are there in the first place? If Serena is interested in Fashion, then I don't think journeying is the right thing to do. She might as well learn how to stitch and make her own original ideas. If she wants to be an actress (poke-vision) then travelling isn't the right thing to do! True, Diantha is shown to be an actress and a trainer but she's a mature woman who just happens to be the champion of Kalos. Serena might as well stop journeying and do some thinking about what she'd do because knowing her, she'd be dead if Ash and co weren't there. Serena ins't doing much. She's just going with the flow of the road.
She is NOT a female Brock. Don't compare her with a great character such as Brock, that's just wrong.
2) Serena is a flat character with no traits other than her Ash crush.
I'd be honest with you, she isn't all that flat anymore, so this statement is indeed false. But the 'major development' was a little too much for a character of her standards. No, that was just a small 'Serena moment'. The writers would want to so 'something' with Serena, no? Making her completely useless would cost them a decrease on views =/ She may not follow Ash but she does try to make him notice. I mean, you can't ignore the winks, the blushing and the pointless chatting that leads no where T_T
3) Serena is nothing but a fan service character
I was really pissed off at this point. Seriously? that's the best they could come up with? I'd like you to point out ONE outfit the Dawn or Iris wore that was just as revealing as Serena's outfit was. I'm not including Misty or May because they're older character and deserve a little respect. Plus, they have indeed wore revealing outfits.
4) I agree with the writer on this point.
5) Why is Serena not doing anything?
The info about this point is stupid. Patience? As in wait around for the anime to get even more boring than it already is? I think not. If she improves (that is a very big IF) then I guess our views may change about her but till now, there is nothing amusing about that character. She may have shown sides to her, but then again the type of sides are rather unpleasant.
6) Serena is obsessed with Ash, she just wants Ash to notice her.
No, she is not completely obsessed with him, but then again she wouldn't be travelling if Ash wasn't there. Her constantly hanging around Ash and acting shy was going to be noticed eventually and since it's tradition that any female protagonist from the games are to travel with Ash then I think it makes sense. Actually, she DOES want Ash to notice her. Don't deny the obvious =p Serena is far from decent. She is a below average, confused character who is just living around the main group.
As much as YOU hate to admit it, there is nothing THAT interesting about her.
I think ILLUSTRIOUS-ROCKET said a pretty neat comment to rival this writers argument. I suggest you check it out.
The next link is yours. And it's about DragonBallZ. I'm sorry, but I could've made a fair argument if I actually watched DragonballZ with heart =/ But here is a fact Purim...Ash is only ten =P
I'd have to be crazy not to answer to your next link. True, she ISN'T the perfect role-model for girls. Actually, you looked at the bright side, which has a few minor pros. Look at the cons of her personality. My good friend, when there are more cons than pros to a characters personality, you can clearly classify them in the amateurish character department.
I'm not trying to act rude here but the question the anonymous user asked really made me laugh. At the end of this post, marleypuckerman14 re-blogged this saying that "At the end of the day, we love the roses and not the thorns on them." Heh, my friend, if the rose does happen to prick your finger, you throw it away. A relationship is like a rose but you must have the strength to maintain that rose and withstand a little prick on the finger. Serena has shown no back-bone, that was her being her. It was the sassy her taking over tremendously. Serena does not have what it takes to handle Pokémon, let alone handle relationships -_-
This was just one scene. I'd like to see this scene rival with the arguments Dawn comes up with Ash to defend her own beliefs. We can't be sure why Serena likes Ash. However, we can be sure why Dawn likes Ash because it was so evident (thanks to Lyra) in the episode 'Gone with the Windworks' did I mention that Dawn actually knew what kind of person Ash is? Lyra even tried to persuade Dawn that 'Ash is a catch' when he was doing his best to get the others out of here. She was sure that Ash is a person who never gives up.
I have absolutely no idea how to reply to this link T_T Serena realizes Ash's habits? Everybody does that, my friend. Even Nurse Joy, gym leaders and every single person on Pokémon knows that Ash is gluttonous, cares for his Pokémon and whatever admirable and non admirable features of Ash you typed. She isn't the only one. The fact is, she just happens to be evident with her crush. For pete's sake...the other female companions were JUST 10! they had their own goals and dreams and they had their own unique personality. I think we've seen Serena's personality type before .-. She has a rather immature love for him. Leaving her mother and what her mother desired for her to become behind just to follow a boy around a whole region. That's not mature. Ignoring yourself just to get to know the boy better, that's immature.
The next link really was really surprising. I have one word for this ' Yamato Nadeshiko' title...Dawn. End of story. I think everybody here knows why I said that. Dawn is a complete 'Yamato Nadeshiko. No doubt. If Ash were to have a girl-friend, it'd be her. Serena has waaay too many flaws that just don't mix with Ash's flaws. Dawn has flaws that have chemistry with Ash's flaws. No other poke-girl is more balanced then Dawn is. Plus, Dawn can cook other things unlike Serena. She happened to have made many things on her Sinnoh Journey. You've really degraded Dawn maybe because you haven't seen the diamond and Pearl saga.

We're toxic. That really hurts to hear. I wish they'd accept us for being different and having our own opinions. I'm sure they know that not everyone has to believe the same and that there's nothing wrong with going against the popular crowd.
But still, we're toxic. Ouch.
