Thanks! The thread starter was one who "multi-shipped" Dawn with many boys. While there is the most competition for Dawn, none of it doesn't really works without Pearlshipping. Ikarishipping is especially reliant on Ash's presence; literally every interaction between Dawn and Paul has to do with Ash
(besides Paul forgetting Dawn's name, but that could be because Ash was more important to remember. See, Ash is always a part of it!)

I never understood why Ikarishipping exists. Can anyone explain why?

Because opposites attract. I see the opposite. WHERE'S THE ATTRACTION!!!

Because opposites attract. I see the opposite. WHERE'S THE ATTRACTION!!! Ah, I get it. But yeah, I don't believe in the statement opposites attract. If you are with someone who has views directly opposing your own views, it won't end well

^This. Also, my theory is that many pokéshippers etc wanted someone for her, someone other than Ash. Since Kenny isn't too popular and because of that opposites attract love myth, they chose Paul. Of course, there are probably also those who truly want them to be together without supporting other shippings but I still think it's a reason for its popularity. Personally, while I think they're both awesome characters, it's hard for me to think of a more awkward pairing. They barely interacted, there are no hints, and they have nothing in common. Barry, Nando, Zoey, pretty much everyone else would have made for a more believable couple in my opinion,
